The election took place in early August during the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago. Under AJC procedures, Martin’s one-year term as vice-chair will automatically be followed by additional one-year terms as chair-elect and chair of the Appellate Judges Conference.

Martin has served on the State Supreme Court since January 1999. He has been the Court’s Senior Associate Justice since February 2006. Prior to his service on the Supreme Court, Martin served four years on the North Carolina Court of Appeals and two years on the North Carolina Superior Court.
