The NCAWARE project is a Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) milestone, identified as a critical need to build a CJIN in North Carolina by a 1994-95 Blue Ribbon Study Committee assembled as a result of the '94 Special Crime Session. NCAWARE is one of four modules that together will make up the Administrative Office of the Court's modernized Court Information System (CIS). Once implemented, NCAWARE will provide the following benefits:
- Provides real-time statewide access to all law enforcement and court officials from any location with web access, including LEO mobile data terminals.
- Reduces risk to personal safety of public, law enforcement, and court officials
- Provides automatic searches for outstanding processes on any defendant, complainant, or witness entered on a process
- Minimizes redundant data entry, errors, and time delays
- Person records and processes will be converted from the Magistrate System or ACIS for each county as they are implemented. The number of person records available for conversion (i.e. defendants, complainants, and witnesses) is estimated to exceed 1.5 million.
