Chief Justice's Media & Courts Forum
chief justice, media, courts, forum
The Chief Justice's Media and the Courts Forum was launched on Feb. 25, 2000 bringing news media and court officials together to discuss how to make court information as accessible as possible to the press while maintaining a person's right to a fair trial.
The 40-member group is made up of judges and other court officials, attorneys, and newspapers, television and radio reporters and managers. The forum is similar to a group that met in the early 1980s that led to the introduction of cameras in state courtrooms and discussions such as whether to use the names of rape victims in news stories.
Subjects discussed in the current forum include updating the cameras in the courtroom rules, judges sealing documents unnecessarily, developing joint education programs and improving relationships.
