What Do I Need To Know?
 
  • Family Court is located on the 11th floor of the Wake County Courthouse which is located at 316 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
  • The Family Court office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • When filing a new domestic case (such as custody), arrive before 4:30 p.m. to ensure enough time to process your paperwork.
  • You will be assigned a Case Coordinator based on your assigned Judge. Your assigned Case Coordinator will be your Family Court contact person for questions about your case.
  • Family Court's services are free of charge.
  • Each time you contact the Family Court office, you must have file number (e.g. 10-CVD-0000) and the name of your assigned Judge available.
Family Court Staff CAN:
  • Schedule conferences, trials and other court events
  • Inform you of scheduled court hearings, conferences or deadlines in your case
  • Answer questions regarding the status of your case
  • Direct you to other agencies and community resources
Family Court Staff CANNOT:
  • Give legal advice
  • Interpret court orders or the law
  • Advise you what to say or write
  • Represent you in court
  • Give messages or information to the judge assigned to your case
