Family Court was first established in North Carolina in 1999 and was implemented in Wake County in February 2006. Wake County Family Court is part of Wake County District Court. The Wake County Family Court staff works with the Family Court judges and the court community to efficiently process family related issues toward a fair, just and prompt resolution.
Family Court judges are specially trained judges who hear family related issues such as child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution of property, domestic violence, allegations of abused, neglected or dependent children, allegations of delinquent or undisciplined children, and termination of parental rights. By having one judge assigned to one family for all family related issues brought before the court, Family Court facilitates more timely, consistent and thoughtful outcomes to a family's legal issues.
