District Attorney's Domestic Violence Unit

"Domestic Violence is a crime, just as if a stranger did it."

A domestic violence unit has been established in the District Attorney's Office in New Hanover County. The domestic violence unit consists of an experienced Assistant District Attorney, a Detective from the New Hanover Sheriff's Department, a Detective from the Wilmington Police Department and a Victim Witness Assistant. This unit is dedicated to stopping violence and protecting victims. This is a collaborative effort with all agencies that provide services to victims of domestic violence.

Victim safety is our #1 priority in this unit and in this office. There is a safe room in the District Attorney's Office for you while waiting for your case to be called for trial. Law enforcement officers will walk you to your car if needed.

The domestic violence unit does follow up on supplemental investigations after a defendant has been charged.
