Child Custody and Visitation Mediation
is a conversation guided by a professional mediator to help people exchange information and make their own decisions. Custody mediation helps parents focus on:
- how their children will spend time with each parent
- how major decisions will be made regarding the children
- other parenting considerations that are important to the family
Appointments with the North Carolina Child Custody and Visitation Mediation Program are only available for people with pending custody actions.
The NC Child Custody and Visitation Mediation Program employs professionals with a master's degree or higher in a counseling field and extensive training in family mediation. They are hired by the District Court and approved by both the local Chief District Court Judge and the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts.
