Failure to Appear

Jurors who fail to appear as directed and to attend until duly discharged are subject to a $50 fine (per N.C.G.S. § 9-13) as well as potentially subject to the contempt powers of the Court.

Jurors who fail to appear are sent a notice in the mail. This notice will inform them of their new service date. If they have a legitimate request for deferral or excusal, it should be submitted for consideration via the website at jury.mecklenburgcountync.gov (preferred) or to the address or fax number given in the notice and received by the Jury Coordinator(s) at least 5 business days before their service date to allow time for their request to be processed. To determine if the request to be deferred or excused has been granted, jurors should visit the website or call 704-686-0195 and follow the instructions. Confirmation will also be sent through email and/or mail. Those who do not request a deferral or excusal, or if the request is denied, must visit the website or call 704-686-0195 after 5:30 p.m. on the business day prior to their service date to determine if their appearance is required and to obtain reporting instructions.
