Failure to Appear

Jurors who fail to appear as directed and to attend until duly discharged are subject to a $50 fine (per N.C.G.S. § 9-13) as well as potentially subject to the contempt powers of the Court.

Jurors who fail to appear are sent a notice in the mail. This notice will inform them of their new service date. If they have a legitimate request for excusal, it should be submitted for consideration, prior to the new service date, to the address or fax number given in the notice. To determine if the request to be excused has been granted, jurors should call 704-686-0195 and follow the instructions. Those who do not request excusal, or if their request is denied, must call 704-686-0195 after 5:30 p.m. on the evening prior to their new service date, to determine if their appearance is still required. If it is, they must report to Room 5450 of the Mecklenburg County Courthouse at 8:00 a.m.
