Court Appointed attorneys are not free attorneys. Court appointed attorneys work at a rate which is greatly reduced from their normal fees. If you are found guilty, you will be required to repay the state of North Carolina for your attorney's services. Additional fines and fees are determined by the judge who oversees your case.
