John. O. Craig, III

Resident Judge, North Carolina Superior Court Fifth Division, District 18-B (High Point) appointed by Governor Easley to his current position in February 2002. Elected to an eight-year term in November 2002; re-elected in 2010.


Born December 14, 1955 in High Point, North Carolina. Married to Kari Craig. One son, Ian; one stepson, Ryan. Methodist. Unaffiliated. Enjoys flyfishing, fly tying, college basketball, falconry, painting, reading historical fiction, writing poetry, entomology and lepidoptery.


Received his undergraduate degree in history, with honors from Davidson College in 1978, was awarded a Thomas Watson Fellowship for post-graduate study abroad in 1979 and received his law degree from UNC-CH in 1982.

Practice of Law:

Admitted to practice North Carolina 1982. U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, U.S. Supreme Court (1987). Practiced law in High Point, NC for twenty years with the Fisher law firm until 2002. Named the "Trial Judge of the Year" for 2005 by the North Carolina Advocates for Justice.

Organizations and Community Affairs:

Vice-Chairman, Board of Governors, Mary and Elliott Wood Foundation, 1999-2009. Member, High Point Rotary Club, 1983-2002. Member and former Trustee, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church; Assistant Coach, High Point Little League; Board of Review Chairman, Troop 4, Boy Scouts of America; Member, Trout Unlimited and Nat Greene Flyfishers; Member, North Carolina Falconers Guild.

Legal Activities:

Member of North Carolina State Bar Association, 18th Judicial District Bar Association, High Point Bar Association, Inns of Court, Guilford Chapter.
