Judges who preside in Family Court are specially trained. Under the Family Court model, all issues involving a family are heard by the same judge. Once a case has been assigned to a judge, that judge will hear all related matters until it is completely resolved.
In Durham County, the following judges preside in Family Court:
- James T. Hill, Chief
- Brian C. Wilks
- Doretta L. Walker
- Pat Evans
- Fred S. Battaglia
- Shamieka L. Rhinehart
Please note: The Judge's Code of Conduct does not allow you to speak directly to a judge. Communications with a judge by one party only (also known as “ex parte” communication) is not permitted. Judicial support staff can provide limited information. Please contact the family court office staff directly with questions about your case.
