The Safe Havens staff realizes that visiting with your child in the presence
of someone else may be uncomfortable for you. You may even be angry that you
have been ordered to use the center. These are perfectly normal feelings. Do
your best to focus on your relationship with your child. Here are some
suggestions that will make visits easier:
- Read the court order and follow it
- Arrive and depart on time
- Do not tell your child it is the other parent's fault that you have to visit at the center
- Avoid making the child feel uncomfortable during visits or exchanges
- Avoid quizzing your child about visits and the other parents activities or relationships
- Keep visits and good-byes positive
