District Court Judges are attorneys who are elected for each district in non-partisan elections for four years and must reside in the district in which they are elected. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina designates one of the judges as Chief District Court Judge, and this judge has administrative duties, including assigning the judges to sessions of court.
Five district court judges are regularily assigned to Orange County. These same judges also hold court in Chatham County, which together with Orange County, comprise the 15B Judicial District. Our District Court Judges, and their respective counties of residence, are:
- Joseph M. Buckner
- Charles T L Anderson
- Beverly A Scarlett
- Lunsford Long
- James T Bryan III
The District Court Trial Court Coordinator and the District Court Arbitration Coordinator is Mindy Harris
