Length of Service

North Carolina requires jurors to serve one week; however, in Buncombe County, jurors are summoned for a specific day of the week. If selected to sit on a trial panel, a person will serve the duration of the trial, which will usually last longer than one day. Those who are not chosen for a particular trial will complete their service at the end of the day.

Jurors must call 232-2706, anytime after 6:00 p.m., on the evening before their service date. A recorded message will inform you if your appearance will be required. This message will run the entire night until normal business hours. Sometimes the court is able to release some or all of the jorors when the need for jurors is less than anticipated.

Any other questions concerning your summons should be directed to the Jury Clerk at 232-2706 after 10:00 a.m.
