District Court Judge Herbert L. Richardson, Sr.

The Honorable Herbert L. Richardson, Sr. has one of the longest tenures of any current active member of the North Carolina judiciary, having served as a District Court judge since 1979. A native of Nash County, Judge Richardson obtained both his B.A. degree and his J.D. degree from North Carolina Central University. From 1994 through 2000 he served as Chief District Court Judge. In 2006 the North Carolina Bar Association presented Judge Richardson with the Association's Liberty Bell Award. The Liberty Bell Award is one of the most prestigious awards given annually by the NCBA and is presented to one who has "strengthened the American system of freedom under law."
