A. Robinson (Robby) Hassell grew up in Greensboro as the oldest of four children of Dr. and Mrs. Charles M. Hassell. Judge Hassell is married to Eloise McCain Hassell, an attorney, mediator, and award-winning Senior Lecturer at UNCG's Bryan School of Business and Economics. They are the proud parents of Molly and Bayly.
Judge Hassell attended the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where he was a Dean's List student and received a B.A. in Political Science and Economics in 1983; he subsequently graduated from the UNC - Chapel Hill School of Law with a J.D. in 1986.
Practice of Law:
Judge Hassell previously served as both an assistant public defender and as a private practitioner handling family law and civil litigation Upon an initial appointment in the mid-1990's by Gov. Jim Hunt, Judge Hassell served for more than ten years as a district court judge for the Eighteenth Judicial District of North Carolina. In March 2009, he was appointed by Gov. Beverly Perdue to a Special Superior Court judgeship, which subjects him to assignment and commission by the Chief Justice to preside in sessions of criminal and civil superior court throughout the state.
