The Administrative Office of the Courts has prepared an expansion budget request for the 2006 Short Session of the General Assembly. With input from court officials and their associations, this request represents only the most immediate, critical needs for the Judicial Branch of Government - totaling some $40 million. See below for links to a summary of that budget, and other information.
On May 3, 2006, a committee of the State Judicial Council met with business leaders from across the state. The purpose of the meeting was to educate key business leaders about the inadequacies in funding of our court system, and the far-reaching consequences on citizens, businesses, public safety and justice.
For years, the AOC, individual court officials, and court associations have attempted to impress upon the General Assembly that the Judicial Branch of Government is woefully unfunded, and to promote an understanding of how essential the court system is to the welfare of our citizens, the stability and prosperity of our state, and respect for our system of law and justice. We are hoping that support from business leaders and others will help address what Chief Justice Sarah Parker has described as a "crisis in our justice system."
