Only certain victims are covered under the Victims' Rights Act. (See
Offenses Covered by the Act.) For victims of other felonies and serious misdemeanors not covered by the Act, another section of the General Statutes instructs officials in the criminal justice system to provide treatment similar to that provided to victims under the Victims' Rights Act. However, these provisions are not mandatory, and are limited by available resources. Officials in the criminal justice system are required to make a reasonable effort to provide fair treatment for these victims and witnesses.
