Victim Witness Legal Assistants: In each of the state's 39 prosecutorial districts, one or more victim witness legal assistants (VWAs) are available in the District Attorney's offices. VWAs ensure that each victim and witness is provided fair treatment. They also provide victims with information about the Crime Victims' Rights Act.
Conference of District Attorneys: The Conference of District Attorneys provides statewide training and materials for victim witness legal assistants and assists District Attorneys in implementing the Crime Victims' Rights Act.
Crime Victims Compensation Program: The Crime Victims Compensation Program pays partial compensation for economic loss due to criminal conduct that causes a person to suffer personal injury or death. A claim for an award of compensation is begun by filing an application with the Director of the Crime Victims Compensation Commission.
Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification (SAVAN): SAVAN is a computer-based telephone notification program that provides victims of crime with offender information and notifications of changes in an offender's custody status. Most District Attorney's offices pre-register victims for automated notifications of court hearings through SAVAN. The District Attorney's office then mails to the victim a packet of information, which contains instructions on how to use SAVAN.
