The Domestic Violence Project was initiated in 2009 through a grant from the Governor's Crime Commission. The goal of the project is to improve court responses to domestic violence by developing the N.C. Domestic Violence Best Practices Guide for District Court Judges handling domestic violence cases and a training curriculum based on the best practices. As part of the project, the NCAOC will provide technical assistance to district courts statewide as they work to implement the best practices and recommended procedures. The best practices guide, training curriculum, and technical assistance will furnish courts with the tools and resources to prioritize victim safety, offender accountability and court efficiency while ensuring the due process rights of all parties.
