There is nothing more important to our nation's freedom than law and order within our own borders. The legal system that we enjoy has helped make this country the greatest nation in the history of civilization. The N.C. court system is critical in upholding our own state laws and preserving our orderly and free society. Our courts provide a fair hearing to all disputing parties. It is a system in which we as citizens can take much pride.
The director of the Administrative Office of the Courts, Judge Ralph A. Walker, and I hope this web site will help you gain a better understanding of the N.C. Judicial Branch of Government, its different courts and its programs that help people get on the right track. The law may seem complex, but at its heart is the protection of individual rights and freedoms, a precious key to a sound democracy.
Sarah Parker,
Chief Justice
